I'm a former American expat who lived in Aachen, Germany for a couple years. Now, I'm in The District of Columbia and living as a young professional. I recently moved to the Trinidad/Gallaudet region of DC...an interesting experience for sure. This blog is about my experiences, thoughts and the occasional political article while living in our nation's capitol and my reminiscent memories of the land of Würst, ordnung and good beer.

I miss academia
Its amazing how much I miss academia, researching and having deep, fact driven conversations on global events, policy and how the history leading up to that point.
I've got to return to this. Soon.

The best time to look for a job is when you already have a job. I do not know who said that but it could be a quote from Rush Limbaugh. That has always been my philosophy and I give that wisdom to anyone I talk to free of charge. You have a job. So, look for work. Whether your work be in Europe or the USA, I suggest you start applying for employment. I believe you should trundle back to the USA at the end of June, find work, and go to graduate school. There is nothing more noble and satisfying than getting a graduate school degree that you have paid for yourself. Go for it!
My (unfortunate) experience was that such discussions rarely, if ever, occurred again after I left the university. It wasn't for lack of wanting to on my part; just seemed like everybody else was always so eaten up with day-to-day life.
